Who Told Us To Grow Up Anyway?
Today while driving through the city I noticed a big mural painted on the side of a building that had the words "The Wonder of Imagination" at the top of it with a bunch of small children painted around it. The kids were doing things such as playing instruments, drawing, and other various things associated with creativity. A light bulb went off in my head. The older we get, the more we are programmed to believe that imagination is child's play and that numbers, spreadsheets, meetings, and financial statements are for adults. What a sad philosophy to adopt. It is my strong belief that the "real world" provides the benefit of teaching us discipline, order, and maturity while the "child like" attribute of imagination gives us the motivation to keep living, creating, and building (the very things that the "grown up" stuff merely supports).
