Be Yourself: Superstars and Starving Artists (Edition 3)
Many newer artists (older artists as well sadly)are trying to sound like someone else. I should know because like I said before, I was once that artist. Now I understand that young artists may not have a clear artistic identity (they probably don't even know themselves yet) but the newer artist's pursuit should be to find a sound/identity of their own.Anything that you emulate from another artist should be used to enhance your own unique artistic expression, not to be a carbon copy of someone else. On the other side of the spectrum, you have artists that try too hard not to sound like someone else that they get a little weird in the process. If you genuinely sound like someone else, don't over do trying to change your style up because then you fall into the trap of trying to be the exact opposite of another artist (which still keeps your focus on the other artist, your fans will pick this up). The goal is to be genuinely you because at the end of the day that is what your unique audience will respond to and fall in love with. Cheers!
